THIS GAME DOES NOT SAVE PROGRESS!! It will also try to make you start over if you lose all your lives. Make sure to use the emulator's save state feature often.
This is Sonic the Hedgehog 2. No, not the movie, the game on the Genesis (or the Mega Drive, if you're on the other side of this big floating space rock).
Note that 2 player mode doesn't support online play yet. You'll have to set Player 2 controls on the emulator settings and play local.
This version includes the dropdash from Sonic Mania! ROM hack by MainMemory.
It's really easy to play; it plays pretty much the same as Sonic 1. Here are the default controls:
- Enter: Start/pause
- Left/right arrow: Move
- Up/down arrow: Look up or down
- Z/X/S: Spin jump
- Down arrow (while moving): Spin attack
- Down arrow (hold) + Z/X/S: Spindash (Press multiple times to rev it up, let go to dash)
- Z/X/S (hold after a jump, as Sonic): Dropdash
- Z/X/S (with all Chaos Emeralds + 50 rings): Transform into Super Sonic
No, you can't fly as Tails in this game.

Anyways, this is the very first version of the game (but with dropdash added). If you want a more updated experience, you have a few options. You could get the mobile remake for iOS or Android for free, get the fan-made Sonic 2 Absolute for free on PC (you can find the APK you need on the internet), or you could buy Sonic Origins on PC or consoles at $40, which comes with remasters of this, Sonic 1, Sonic CD and Sonic 3&K.
Anyways, hope you enjoy this game and don't fall into the spike pit at Mystic Cave Zone Act 2.
