THIS GAME DOES NOT SAVE PROGRESS!! It will also try to make you start over if you lose all your lives, unless you have a Continue. Make sure to use the emulator's save state feature often.

This is the original, very first, Sonic the Hedgehog. Originally released in June 1991 by SEGA. This one is a rom hack that includes the Spindash from later Sonic games!
It's really easy to play; you only need the arrows and the Z key! (X and S also work, but Z is the superior choice.) Here are the default controls:

Enter: Start/pause
Left/right arrow: Move
Up/down arrow: Look up or down
Z/X/S: Spin jump
Down arrow (while moving): Spin attack
Down arrow (hold) + Z/X/S: Spindash (Press multiple times to rev it up, let go to dash)

Anyways, this is the very first version of the game (but with spindash added). If you want a more updated experience, you have a few options. You could get the mobile remake for iOS or Android for free, get the fan-made Sonic 1 Forever for free on PC (you can find the APK you need on the internet), or you could buy Sonic Origins on PC or consoles at $40, which comes with expanded remasters of this, Sonic CD, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3&K.

Anyways, hope you enjoy this game and don't die too much in the Labyrinth Zone.
